Cartagena Chronicles: Culture, Adventure & Caribbean Soul Food (Days 2–4 Recap)

After settling into the rhythm of Cartagena on day one, the next few days unfolded like scenes from a dream—vibrant, rich in culture, and exactly what my soul had been craving. From thrilling ATV rides to savory seafood feasts, here’s how I embraced the magic of Cartagena, Colombia.

A Bucket List Adventure: ATVing Through Cartagena’s Beauty

Let’s start with the highlight that had been sitting on my bucket list for years—ATVing, and wow, it did not disappoint. We booked our tour with Cartagena ATV Tour through Viator, and the experience was seamless from start to finish. Communication was handled via WhatsApp with clear instructions, and the team was professional, respectful, and made us feel incredibly safe.

Faith, Dust, and Full Throttle

Once we hit the trail, adrenaline kicked in and the views were absolutely breathtaking—golden beaches, lush landscapes, and that Caribbean breeze against your face. If you’re looking for an exhilarating way to explore beyond the city limits, this is it.

Walking Through Time: Two City Tours, Two Different Vibes

Cartagena is a city with layers of history and soul, and I got to experience it from two powerful perspectives:

🧭 Walking Tour of the Walled City & Getsemaní

Álvaro

We joined the Nexperience Walking Tour, and our guide, Álvaro, brought the streets to life with stories, humor, and local insight. If you’re planning this tour—ask for Álvaro by name! He’s passionate, knowledgeable, and makes every step unforgettable. We wandered through the historic Walled City, soaking up its colonial charm, and danced with the colors and street art of Getsemaní, a neighborhood pulsing with creativity and pride.

🚌 Chiva Bus Tour & San Felipe Fortress

Later, we hopped aboard a Chiva Bus Tour—a lively way to explore Cartagena with music and energy on wheels. This tour included a stop at the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, an architectural marvel with incredible views and fascinating stories of battles, tunnels, and colonial strategy. Our guide delivered a wealth of knowledge and kept us laughing the whole ride.

San Fielipe Fort

A Taste of Cartagena: Food That Nourished My Soul

After our Chiva tour, our guide recommended Casa de Socorro—and let me tell you, it was one of the best meals I had in Cartagena. I ordered the whole fried red snapper, served with coconut rice, fried green plantains, and a hearty fish soup. Every bite was an explosion of flavor, soul, and Caribbean authenticity. You haven’t truly tasted Cartagena until you’ve had this meal.

Another standout dinner was at Cande, a charming restaurant with amazing vibes, live music, and a menu that blends elegance with tradition. It was the perfect setting to unwind and indulge.

Sunset Serenity & Salsa Spice

On one of our evenings, we treated ourselves to a sunset cruise, and it was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of gold and coral, I felt my whole body exhale. Peaceful, scenic, and grounding—it was a moment of pure Cartagena magic.

Later, we turned up the energy with a private salsa class at Crazy Salsa, and it was everything. The instructors were fun and patient, and it felt amazing to connect with the heart of Colombian culture through movement. I may not have the smoothest steps, but I left with rhythm in my heart and a piece of Cartagena’s passion in my soul.

Shopping & Souvenirs: Taking Cartagena Home

We couldn’t leave without a bit of shopping, of course! From colorful bags to handmade jewelry and vibrant art, souvenir hunting turned into an adventure of its own. Every item I picked up felt like a story waiting to be told—a tangible reminder of a place that left its imprint on me.

Final Reflections: Cartagena, You Were Everything

Cartagena was vibrant, welcoming, affordable, and exactly what my spirit needed. Between the rich culture, flavorful cuisine, adrenaline-pumping adventures, and soulful sunsets, I left feeling lighter, more grounded, and incredibly grateful.

It’s not just a destination—it’s an experience that stays with you.

Would I return? In a heartbeat.
